WILLIAM A. CALLEGARI
Texas House of Representatives, District 132
Bill Callegari has resided in the District 132 area and been a businessman in the Houston area for more than 35 years. A Licensed Professional Engineer for more than 36 years, he holds a Master=s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Houston, and a Bachelor=s Degree in Agricultural Engineering from Louisiana State University. Bill and his wife, Ann, have been happily married for more than 40 years and reside in Katy. They have four children and 10 grandchildren.
In 1974 he founded Am-Tex Corporation, a firm operating water utilities for many Houston area municipal and commercial clients. In 20 years, Mr. Callegari grew the company from the original one-man operation to a strong regional corporation employing numerous people throughout Southeast, Central, and North Texas. He served as the firm=s chairman of the board and chief executive officer until selling Am-Tex to the fourth largest utility in the world in 1993.
He is a Licensed Professional Engineer, and holds class A certifications in water and wastewater operations. He has served on numerous professional and civic boards and committees relating to water, environmental control and wastewater treatment, including, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, American Waterworks Association, Water Environment Association of Texas, and Texas Water Utilities Association. He was co-founder and former president of the Association of Water Board Directors, and the first chairman of the Texas Water Commission Wastewater Certification Advisory Committee.
Mr. Callegari was inducted into the "LSU College of Engineering Hall of Distinction" in 1997 and the "LSU Alumni Hall of Distinction" in 1999 and is included on the Alumni Center Wall of Honor. In addition the "William A. Callegari Environmental Center" was named in his honor. He is also listed in the Who's Who in South and Southwest, Worldwide, and Environmental Registry.
Community involvement has been an important part of Bill Callegari=s life and career. Prior to being elected to the Texas State Legislature in 2000, he was involved in numerous activities in both the Katy and Houston areas, including local chambers of commerce and various professional and civic organizations.
Mr. Callegari served as a Katy Independent School District Board Trustee in the mid-eighties. He has also served as Precinct Chairman, Director of Katy Chamber of Commerce, President of Katy Booster Club, Bank Director, Church Finance Council Member, and been involved on various other community and church committees.
Additionally, Callegari=s scope of involvement has included the following: Trustee and Chairman of Government Affairs--Greater Houston Builder=s Association, City of Houston Wastewater Regionalization Task Force Member, Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission Sewer System Design Criteria Committee, Greater Fort Bend Economic Development Committee Member, Chairman--Houston Community College Northwest College Business Steering Committee, Honorary Chapter Farmer--Katy-Taylor High School Future Farmers of America, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo--Calf Scramble Committee, National and Texas Society of Professional Engineers, and Water Environment Association of Texas.
Representative Callegari has served District 132 since his election in 2000, and looks forward to continuing to serve the residents of his district and the State of Texas. He currently serves on the House Natural Resources Committee, the Transportation Committee, and the Calendars Committee. In addition to these assignments, he also serves on the House Research Organization. During previous sessions Representative Callegari has served on the Committee on Urban Affairs, the Committee on Government Reform, the Local and Consent Calendars Committee, and the Study Commission on Water for Environmental Flows.
Representative Callegari has received numerous awards and recognition for his conservative voting record from numerous organizations, including the Texas Association of Business, Texas Society of Professional Engineers, Water Environment Association of Texas, National Rifle Association, Texas Association of Realtors, Texas Dental Association, Texas Hospital Association, Texas Eagle Forum, Texas Right to Life, Greater Houston Partnership and the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas.
In only three terms in office, Bill has established himself as a no-nonsense, conservative leader. One of only two Licensed Engineers in the House of Representatives, he has brought unique professionalism and expertise to the Legislative process. Bill’s strong background as a business community leader, his high energy level, and his high ethical and moral standards has earned the respect of his fellow legislators. He takes this job very seriously and his door is always open to discuss issues with friend or foe.
